Vijay’s super hit Tamil blockbuster ‘Master’ is finally going to be released in Hindi for online streaming. The action drama flick was in the top 5 highest grossing films of 2021 by February but has managed to slip from its previous ranking now. Master is still in most top 10 lists with an estimated gross of at least USD 29 million (This value varies very differently from list to list). Master will release in Hindi on Zee5 Premium with a new title.
After the film released on 13th January, a day before the Pongal festival in over 1000 theaters alone in Tamil Nadu, the reception for the movie was so much that the feature film managed to make back what it spent for production in just two days. And this happened even with the Covid-19 restrictions in place for most of the theaters the movie played in. The film simultaneously also released in Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada dubbed versions as well. The Telugu version of The Master went on to be screened in 600 theaters in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Due to this crazy reception from Vijay fans and Tamil movie lovers, the movie went on to make somewhere between Rupees 263 crores – Rupees 300 crores (again, not a fully accurate figure) making it the first Indian film to have occupied the No. 1 spot in the global box office for 2021 at the time of its release. The film then released on Amazon Prime Video for online viewing, barely a month after the movie released in theaters.
This slowed down its box office revenue considerably but it also got noticed by the rest of the country (finally) and slowly demands for a Hindi dub version of the film started popping up on multiple social media platforms. Retitling the movie as ‘Vijay The Master’, Zee5 Premium announced that the movie will be coming out in Hindi on their official OTT platform in a couple of days.
