Thalapathy Vijay’s superhit Master will drop in three OTTs by the end of this month, including on the OTT giant Amazon Prime Video. This is an unprecedented turn of events – from the rollercoaster ride of almost featuring the film in 100% capacity theaters to releasing the film on digital streaming platforms after just 16 days from its initial theatrical release. This short turn over period is unheard of, especially for a heavy budgeted, mass advertised and double superstar containing thriller like Master. Well, with Covid, everything has changed; and even though this decision may look sudden, it will help gain better attention in the international market.
Master has been kicking butt at the Tamil Nadu box office, earning over Rs. 115 crore after just 12 days of runtime. These numbers are even more impressive when you look at the fact that most of the theaters are currently following the 50% occupancy only format. These numbers also constitute more than 50% of its entire world box office numbers as well. The film has grossed over Rs. 211 crore worldwide, making it the 4th highest grossing film of 2021s box office (currently).
Master will drop in three OTT platforms simultaneously – Amazon Prime Video, Simply South App and Tentkotta. Master didn’t release in many big overseas markets like Singapore and Malaysia and therefore the Amazon Prime Video release of the action thriller will be a definite coup by the OTT giants over their cinema counterparts. We expect the film to still run in cinemas even after the OTT release due to the popularity of both superstar actors and the incredible word-of-mouth this film seems to be garnering. A film such as Master will still be watched in cinemas first before many opt for a digital rewatch.
Master will premiere in the Indian digital streaming space on January 29th on Amazon Prime Video. The movie will be available for overseas viewers on Simply South App and Tentkotta. Check out the Amazon Prime VIdeo trailer for Master down below:
