The OTT boom has resulted in a new class of film enthusiasts in India – those who love watching movies on OTT rather than trudging down to the theatres to watch their favourite actors in action on screen. This class of film lovers is content with waiting for a film to release on a streaming platform, so that they can watch it in the comfort and convenience of their own homes.
This class of film watchers even knows how long they have to wait for a film to arrive on streaming – one month for films from the South film industries, and two months for a Bollywood film. Which is why, digital viewers have gotten increasingly restless in the last month – coz there’s still no sign of the OTT release of ‘Vikram Vedha’ and ‘Bhediya’ – even after 4 months and 2.5 months respectively of their release in theatres.
So, why? Why is the ‘Vikram Vedha’ OTT release date and ‘Bhediya’ OTT release date still not happening? Read on to find out!
As per sources in the media, the post-theatrical streaming rights for both Vikram Vedha and Bhediya have been acquired by Jio Cinema. If that is so, why hasn’t Jio Cinema announced the streaming date for Vikram Vedha and Bhediya still?
The answer lies in the fact that Jio Cinema is soon coming up with a brand new streaming platform that will combine Jio Cinema with Voot Select, into one single OTT platform. Regular followers of Binged must know that Mukesh Ambani’s Jio Cinema has bought Viacom 18 Studios in India, along with its streaming arm, Voot Select. Now, the company plans to bring out a combined streaming platform for both OTTs, which is likely to be renamed ‘Jio Voot’.
The new Jio Cinema – Voot Select combined streaming platform plans to make a huge splash at launch – with several hyped film premieres, which include Hrithik Roshan’s Vikram Vedha, and Varun Dhawan’s Bhediya. There are a couple of other movies in their kitty, which will also be premiered as part of the launch of the new Jio OTT platform.
Already, eagle-eyed digital viewers have noticed that Jio Cinema has been given a new improved user interface recently. Though there’s no official date announced for the launch of the new Jio Voot streaming platform, the launch should happen anytime soon. Along with the OTT release of Vikram Vedha and Bhediya.
Stay tuned to Binged for further news on the Vikram Vedha OTT release date and Bhediya OTT release date. Until then, all we can do is to sit tight and play the waiting game.
