Gifted filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra has given us some brilliant films like ‘Parinda’ and ‘1942: A Love Story’ in the past. The last movie which he directed was ‘Shikara’. And now, after a gap of three years, the National Film Award winning filmmaker is all set for his next directorial feature film project titled ‘12th Fail’. The movie is slated for a theatrical release on 27th October in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam languages.
Yesterday, the makers unveiled the motion poster for ‘12th Fail’ and now, the film’s official trailer has been released. Let’s see what it tells us about the film starring the terrific Vikrant Massey (Mirzapur, Haseen Dillruba) in the lead role.
‘12th Fail’ trailer starts off with a statistic that out of two lakh Hindi medium students, merely 25-30 of them are able to become IAS / IPS officers. The rest of the trailer essentially focuses on how a poor boy (Vikrant Massey) from Chambal moves to a big city with a virtually impossible dream of cracking the UPSC exam. The trailer also shows how the boy struggles so hard and does menial jobs to survive. Vikrant Massey is a fine actor, and his acting chops are amply displayed in the film’s trailer. His body language, expressions, and overall getup are spot on.
Based on Anurag Pathak’s best-selling book, ‘12th Fail’ is a film which ostensibly narrates the incredible and inspirational story of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma and IRS officer Shraddha Joshi. The story is set amidst the backdrop of grueling preparation by students who try to clear one of the world’s toughest exams: UPSC.
Previously, the lives of UPSC aspirants were beautifully captured in the web series ‘Aspirants’, which revolved around three close friends Abhilash (Naveen Kasturia), SK (Abhilash Thapliyal), and Guri (Shivankit Singh Parihar) and their relationships while toiling to crack the UPSC exam. The show resonated emotionally with OTT audiences in a big way.
So now, it would be interesting to see whether Vidhu Vinod Chopra will be able to adeptly portray the lives of UPSC aspirants in his forthcoming film ‘12th Fail’. And whether the acclaimed filmmaker will be able to get back in his top form with this film? From the trailer, it looks like he has. Meanwhile, you can watch the trailer below.
