Kiccha Sudeep’s recent box office hit ‘Vikrant Rona’ has got into this unique technique to release different language versions of the film on different platforms.
While the original Kannada version with English subtitles is all set to stream from 2nd September on Zee5, the Telugu version is now headed to Disney+ Hotstar on 16th, September.
Moreover, there’s no official information on which OTT platform/platforms the other language versions of the film are gonna land given that ‘Vikrant Rona’ was touted as a pan India film with Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam versions too.
One other thing to note is the two weeks long gap between the digital premieres of ‘Vikrant Rona’ on Zee5 (in Kannada) and Disney+ Hotstar (in Telugu).
We have seen films like ‘RRR’ and ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’ releasing on different platforms in different languages, but it’s mostly that the Hindi version premieres on one platform while the other languages combined stream on one other OTT service.
In case of ‘RRR’ though the film’s huge popularity led to its release on Disney+ Hotstar too in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada languages, more than two months after their initial OTT release on Zee5 and Netflix.
But with ‘Vikrant Rona’ things seem a bit different. Both Zee5 and Disney+ Hotstar have mentioned the language in which the film will be streaming on their platforms with no update on where the other versions will arrive by the makers as of yet.
If the other language versions each go to different OTT platforms, ‘Vikrant Rona’ will become the first such latest film to adopt this unique strategy.
