The one and only on-screen Kingpin, Vincent D’Onofrio, believes that ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is really smart and may take viewers by surprise.
D’Onofrio shared some interesting BTS details about the highly-anticipated Disney+ show via Twitter. The project is currently in the pre-production stage. And the filming will commence soon. The actor also added that the series would be “very different” from the original Netflix show.
This is what the actor said in his latest tweet:
It's going to be very very cool. Very different than the Netflix show which was as we know was amazing. Yet this is brand new and really smart.
We are going to surprise everyone with it.
And yes it's going to be really cool.— Vincent D'Onofrio (@vincentdonofrio) February 7, 2023
D’Onofrio played Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, in the best way possible in Netflix’s Daredevil show. He starred opposite Charlie Cox, who played the protagonist himself. The Full Metal Jacket fame served as Season 1’s primary antagonist. His role in the second season was more of a supporting one. Then, his character decided to make Matt Murdock’s life a living hell again in Season 3 alongside Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter, aka Bullseye.
In November 2018, Netflix abruptly pulled the plug on the popular superhero series, upsetting millions of fans across the globe. However, D’Onofrio appeared as Kingpin again in Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld’s Hawkeye series in 2021. And we watched Charlie Cox’s brilliant cameo in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home later that year.
Born Again is set to become the longest Disney+ Marvel series ever, with 18 episodes in total. It will premiere next year. But before that, we have Alaqua Cox’s Echo series, set to hit the Disney+ streaming service in late 2023. We can expect both Daredevil and Kingpin to appear in it before going one-on-one again with each other in 2024.
Reports of Born Again’s scheduling conflicts surfaced some time ago on social media, hinting at the possible exit of Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones from the show. After that, several rumours have stated that Jon Bernthal may serve as Ritter’s replacement. It means we may see the return of Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, in the upcoming Disney+ show.
It will be intriguing to see how the Disney+ version differs from the original Netflix masterpiece. Season 3’s open ending gave a chance to Wilson Fisk to appear again in Matt Murdock’s life and wreak havoc in it. Also, we must not forget about Dex. He undergoes experimental surgery to fix his broken spine in the finale’s last moments. Marvel may bring the character back in Born Again. Who knows?
Daredevil: Born Again stars Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Michael Gandolfini, Margarita Levieva, Sandrine Holt, and Nikki M. James. Stay tuned for more updates.
