The year 2020 was one of the most horrifying years in everyone’s lives. A virus took over the world and the world stopped. We saw people suffer, we saw people loose lives and we saw people that struggled all over the world. There wasn’t a single country or a place that wasn’t affected at all. Now, coming to the country with 1.3 billion people living in it, this phase hit hard. People lost jobs; people were confined and stuck at places, away from their loved ones, people saw other sufferings and what not.
Despite all these, we wanted something that could take away all our worries, tensions and fears for at least some time. This is when Vir Das stepped in. India’s one of the most versatile and actually one of the funniest stand-up comedians. He came in and saved people at least for an hour out of the miserable lives they were living in.
Vir Das started an online stand-up comedy show, where he connected with people on zoom call, listened to their stories and did his gig. He said it was one of the best things that he did during this horrifying year. Earlier it was planned to be just a one off show but later due to extreme and popular demands, he continued and made 30 more such shows.
The stand up special is coming to Netflix now as “Vir Das: Outside In-The Lockdown Special”. It is one of a kind show where everything is collected from those shows that he did online. It actually is going to one special show for sure. When the entire country had the same routine no matter where they were and still connecting for an hour to laugh it out.
The proceedings of all those shows were donated to a charity. How much better will this special get now? This definitely will be one of Vir Das’s most amazing pieces but along with that, probably somewhere he is being thanked by someone who could survive through this lockdown because of him. Lucky are those who could attend the shows. He changed something for everyone that attended even though it was just for an hour.
Kudos to Vir Das for being there in this tough time and still making people laugh.
