Telugu Comedian Sathya’s Vivaha Bhojanambu has skipped its theatrical release and arrived directly on SonyLIV. It is the first Direct-to-OTT Telugu release on the platform. The movie has got a lukewarm response from the audience and the critics. The movie has been produced at a modest budget of 75 Lakhs but has got 1.5 Crore for its Digital Rights.
The makers have pocketed another 1.5 Crore from satellite and other rights. Even after such hefty profits, they have completed deserted the movie without proper promotions. The producer of the film, Sundeep Kishan only gave a Zoom interview a day before the release. Even that interview has been hampered due to some technical issue. Meanwhile, SonyLIV also did not make an effort to promote the movie except for running ads.
Running ads and promoting the films with the star appeal are two different things. Both of them are important for a film. The second part of promotions has been a problem with the filmmakers after they offload their films to the OTT platforms. The tyranny of distance between Hyderabad and Mumbai is ensuring that the top brass of the OTT platforms does not realize what is missing. As a result, the hard-earned opportunities are going down the drain.
