The partnership of the leading telecom giant Vodafone-Idea (Vi) and Sun NXT, which is an OTT platform based in India is a hot story today, to which the companies are signing a content deal using several assumptions and data. How is this relevant for its subscribers? What are its promises?
As per the telecom company, the objective of such an association is to enable a library of South Indian movies, exclusive series, TV shows, and live TV in seven languages, via the Vi Movies & TV application. But why is this necessary?
Furthermore, Sun NXT’s premium content is now included in the Vi Movies and TV Plus, along with the Lite pack, priced at Rs 248 and Rs 154 per month respectively, at no extra cost. Is this economically feasible for a middle-level subscriber?
Subsequently, highlighting the importance of regional language content for national OTT platforms aiming to attract a broader audience can be considered as a blend of economic and ethical aspects.
As per credible surveys, a 52% content volume in the regional content is found in comparison with the 48% of its Hindi content which remarks its value of importance in audience breaking the industrial barriers and having a wider ambit.
On the contrary, users can access other OTT platforms like Disney+Hotstar, Manorama MAX, Sony LIV, ZEE 5, etc, apart from the Sun NXT which will help the customers save significantly on streaming subscriptions by preventing the stress of managing individual payments for each one of them.
But how well can it help such a partnership? What will be the business outcome of such a collaboration?
