‘Breaking Bad’ star Bryan Cranston is going to appear in a Hollywood remake of the hit Israeli miniseries ‘Kvodo’ (which roughly translates to Your Honor). The Hollywood series will be titled ‘Your Honor’ and it will be released in India on Voot Select at the same time as it will premiere in the U.S. on SHOWTIME. The original creators of the series (‘Kvodo’) are Ron Ninio and Shlomo Mashiach.
Voot Select is an Indian OTT Platform which was launched back in March 2016, which is part of Viacom 18. Voot is an ad-based, video on demand streaming platform that is available on iOS, KaiOS and Android as well as has a website for PC/Laptop access. The streaming service is said to have around 100 million monthly active users, which explains its quick rise in the Indian digital streaming market.
SHOWTIME’s ‘Your Honor’ follows a judge from New Orleans named Michael Desiato (portrayed by Bryan Cranston). He is forced to confront his deepest beliefs when his son is involved in a hit and run. What’s more, the person his son killed is part of an organized crime family – the son of the head of the family. As the series progresses, the crime family prepares for war and Desiato faces an impossible set of choices and discovers the things he is willing to do to save his son’s life.
Surprisingly, Hollywood isn’t the first film industry to remake the Israeli series, that honour belongs to Bollywood. The Indian Film Production company, Applause Entertainment managed to produce and release a television series named ‘Your Honor’ (Same title) based on the same series created by Ron Ninio and Shlomo Mashiach. The 12 episode mini-series which was directed by Eeshwar Nivas is currently streaming on Sony LIV. The series dropped earlier this year on June 18th 2020 and featured Jimmy Sheirgill, Yashpal Sharma, Meeta Vashisth, Parul Gulati and Varun Badola in prominent roles.
The American TV mini series ‘Your Honor’ will premiere on Voot Select on 7th December 2020 in India. The same show will premiere on 6th December 2020 in the U.S. on SHOWTIME.
