Disney+ isn’t slowing down when it comes to rolling out original series. Besides the Marvel Originals, Korean and other International Originals, the streaming biggie is also rolling out so many interesting shows. The latest addition is “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” and none other than the dorky Walker Scobell from Netflix’s “The Adam Project” is cast in the titular role. The series adaptation of the Rick Riordan book series was announced in the month of January by the streamer.
The series is based on Rick Riordan’s fantasy novels. Scobell plays the titular role of Percy Jackson in the fantasy series who is smart, equally compassionate and quick-witted kid. He’s always been treated as an outsider because of his ADHD and dyslexia. He’s impulsive and also has anger issues when faced with anything unfair. Behind all that cynicism is a rightful boy who just wants to do right things. The series follows the 12-year-old demigod who’s coming to terms with his newly found supernatural powers. This is when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. Now Percy has to trek across America to find it and restore order to Olympus.
The much read Percy Jackson book series comprises of “The Lightning Thief,” “The Sea of Monsters,” “The Titan’s Curse,” “The Battle of the Labyrinth,” and “The Last Olympian.” Out of which, “Lightning Thief” and “Sea of Monsters” were adapted into feature films previously in the year 2010 and 2013 respectively with Logan Lerman starring as Jackson. However both the films opened to mixed reviews and mid box office success.
Scobell made his debut in the Netflix film “The Adam Project,” starring opposite Ryan Reynolds and Mark Ruffalo. Scobell will next be seen in the Paramount film “Secret Headquarters” alongside Owen Wilson hitting theatres this August 5.
The Disney+ series will have Riordan and Jon Steinberg serving as writers of the pilot episode. James Bobin is attached to direct. 20th Television is the principal studio and production for the series begins this summer. Stay tuned for more updates.
