Warner Bros. should host some masterclasses on productivity, as they quickly capitalized on the deal with Tom Cruise, with both parties shaking hands a couple of days ago. More of a strategic deal, it will focus on both parties collaborating even more.
Warner Bros. needed more mass-action films, and they will now utilize Cruise’s expertise in making a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow. If done well, Warner Bros. might replicate the success Cruise had with Paramount.
The original film, Edge of Tomorrow, came out in 2014, making the sci-fi time loop thriller work with a good plot and the charm of Cruise. It’s not the first time the makers planned a sequel.
Just one year after the release, the makers were sure about making the sequel, stating, “We have the idea for the sequel locked and loaded,” letting fans know the chance of getting one is highly probable. Even in 2016, during an interview, potential director Doug Liman stated, “It’s going to revolutionize how people make sequels. It really will.”
But, as you can tell, it never happened. Delays after delays made it more uncertain. Though Cruise and Emily Blunt both expressed their desire to wear the boots once again, this new partnership might make it happen, ten years after the original.
Edge of Tomorrow is much different from Cruise’s other franchises; it has action (a Cruise thing), but the film also focuses a lot on the technical and plot aspects.
Fans, buckle up, as Edge of Tomorrow is definitely closer than ever. The announcement might come sooner than we expect. Ten years – that’s what it took, but the result can be a fruitful one.
