Yes, you read that right! It seems like Warner Bros and DC executives have lost their minds after the massive box office failure of The Flash. The former studio is scrambling with the final offering of the DCEU, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, as several BTS issues have surfaced, according to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter. The superhero franchise will finish its messy journey after the release of Aquaman 2. But the troubles are far from over for the forthcoming Jason Momoa starrer.
A recent report from THR has revealed that Aquaman 2 has undergone a total of three reshoots so far. The film’s storyline is unclear due to “different visions of executives”. On top of that, the issue of Batman has complicated things for the sequel. Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck have shot scenes as their respective versions of Batman (Bruce Wayne) for the film. However, the newest cut has removed their scenes, as DC Studios’ heads, James Gunn and Peter Safran, do not want to “promise a movie universe that will not come to fruition.”
Additionally, both WB and DC do not know how to deal with poor test screenings of Aquaman 2.
Will we see Jason Momoa’s Aquaman becoming a part of the DCU in future? DC Studios has teased its interest in making “King of the Seven Seas” part of Gunn and Safran’s franchise. However, a lot also depends upon Aquaman 2’s financial performance. Some of the latest DCEU entries, such as Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Black Adam, and The Flash failed to impress the fans and became massive financial failures for Warner Bros and DC. So, DC Studios may maintain a safe distance from the leftovers of the DCEU, including Aquaman 2.
Many also believe that Momoa may get the opportunity to play Lobo in Gunn’s DCU.
Helmed by James Wan, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will arrive in theatres worldwide on December 20. Stay tuned for more updates.
