Who doesn’t know Barbie? The movie phenomenon took over the world last year. It was marketed in a way that people all across the globe started treating Barbie as a cultural phenomenon. This movie is the first live-action adaptation based on Mattel’s famous Barbie dolls, following many animated versions. Margot Robbie stars as Barbie, and Ryan Gosling plays Ken. The film explores their journey of self-discovery through the vibrant world of Barbieland and the real world after Barbie faces an existential crisis. It also touches on themes of patriarchy and feminism.
The film features a strong supporting cast, including America Ferrera, Michael Cera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, and Will Ferrell. Released on July 21, 2023, “Barbie” became a huge success, earning $1.446 billion, making it the highest-grossing film of 2023 and the 14th highest-grossing film ever.
Regardless, there is a sad trend in which every successful project is forced to get a sequel. Even if they are planned as a standalone project, producers try to mug up something and make a part 2. Well, if reports are to be believed then the same is happening with Barbie. Producers, more precisely Warner Bros want to make a second part even if Greta Gerwig, the mommy of the film does not wish to be a part of it. Well, they are the producers and they have every right to make the sequel. Let’s see if the public shows any interest.
