DC’s ship faced a fate worse than the Titanic, and for the destruction of the ship, there isn’t just one iceberg. WB took major responsibility to tarnish the image of the DC franchise, and now, their treatment towards India regarding Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom screams the reason for failure.
So, what did WB do?
A few days ago, it was confirmed that Aquaman 2 is coming as a VOD on several platforms on January 23rd. Although VOD doesn’t interest many fans, as it acts as a sign that it will be available on normal OTT soon enough.
With a month-long theatrical run and exceeding expectations, Aquaman 2 made fans excited not just because of that. Being the final film of the DC run, fans wanted to stream it as soon as possible, but WB’s treatment towards Indian fans isn’t the best.
On the contrary, Marvel releases its content in India on the same day as the global release, but DC is showing a different trend. This is nothing new for WB, but being the last film of a beloved franchise, fans had their hopes up.
Grossing $400M in numbers, India gave it a ₹3Cr opening day. Though the film didn’t perform exceptionally well, facing tough competition, an OTT release would have received a strong welcome. However, that looks like a mirage, as the makers are yet to provide a proper update on the release.
DC’s management sucks, always did, and that has been hampering the credibility of the universe. One downfall has already happened — mismanagement and unnecessary firings. The previous run ended in disaster. Will DC stay alive this time under Peter Safran and James Gunn?
