Kantara is a film that became a trademark for movies providing good content showing a balanced equilibrium of artistic content and entertainment. It was released on 30th September 2022 and created a havoc soon after it’s release. The movie became very popular among the masses and earned a huge collection in the box office. Not only the movie did good commercially, it also shone in the critical aspects getting positive reviews from critics and winning multiple awards including National Film Awards as well.
The movie was re-released today in the theatres amidst the festival of re-releases of many movies. The main focus of re-release is to release the movies that were very good content wise, and were quite ahead of their time hence failed to do good commercially and were considered a flop. These movies are being released again to compensate for their mistreatment initially, and to support the makers of such excellent films. Rockstar, Gangs of Wasseypur and Tumbbad are some of the films that fall in this category. Also, some hit movies are being released again to celebrate their success or to memorize the artists/creators who made the movie possible.
But re-releasing Kantara raises a doubt in our minds. The movie was very successful with a lifetime earning of 400 crores. This figure is something makers dream of achieving. The trailer for the next edition of Kantara movies already has received a lot of praise from the audience making it a sure success. Thee movie was released about 2 years ago, which makes it less likely for the movie to be needing a celebratory re-release. Hence the release of the movie seems nothing but a strategy to earn more and more money by the makers.
The movie is a commendable one with its quality holding it in the seventh sky. But re-releasing the movie at this point of time when movies like Gangs of Wasseypur and Tumbbad are being released, which actually need this support, is a bad move. This release obviously will divide their audience and will do more harm to them than it would do good to Kantara itself. Kantara had a fair share of appreciation, business and glorification at the time of release. But now the re-release is not going to significantly affect the reception of the movie.
