Legendary filmmaker James Cameron launched the Terminator franchise with a bang with the first entry (1984). The film topped the box office during its theatrical run and paved the way for Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991). The sequel ended up collecting over $500 million globally. However, the franchise lost its momentum and craze after the release of the ‘not-so-impressive’ Rise of the Machines (2003). And we all know what happened with Salvation (2009) and Genisys (2015). The disastrous performances of Salvation and Genisys forced Cameron to ignore these films while writing the story for Terminator: Dark Fate (2019).
Dark Fate revolves around a young lady, Dani Ramos, who becomes Rev-9’s (new Terminator model) target. Soon, Grace arrives in 2020 from 2042 to protect Dani from Rev-9. Grace herself is a cybernetically enhanced soldier. Their efforts to protect themselves from the new Terminator model lead them to Sarah Connor, John Connor’s mother. Together, they try to destroy Rev-9, along with the help of T-800 as well.
Terminator: Dark Fate is not a masterpiece like the first two Terminator flicks. But it is a highly entertaining film. The majority of critics praised the return of Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor. In addition, the film’s visuals, action sequences, Tim Miller’s direction, and Tom Holkenborg’s musical score were well received. The best part about this film was the development of female characters: Hamilton’s Sarah Connor and Mackenzie Davis’ Grace.
Overall, Terminator: Dark Fate is a highly entertaining and thrilling action flick. It is currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. Watch it now!
