The great helmer Steven Spielberg has touched almost every genre in his legendary feature directional career. He is a maestro at storytelling and knows how to forge emotional connections with his audience. Flicks like Jaws (1975), E. T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), Indiana Jones series, Jurassic Park (1993), Lincoln (2012), West Side Story (2021), and many more are some of the masterpieces he has delivered to the world of cinema. His latest project, The Fabelmans (2022), earned seven nominations at this year’s Academy Awards. The director has made several films in his career that were highly enjoyable to watch but got overshadowed by the likes of E.T., Jurassic Park, the Indiana Jones series, and many more. One of those flicks is The Adventures of Tintin (2011).
Based on Herge’s comic book series, the film follows a young journalist, named Tintin, and his loyal pet dog, Snowy. The duo embarks on a mysterious but exciting adventure to uncover the truth about a sunken ship, Unicron. Along the way, they team up with Captain Haddock and Sir Francis Haddock only to find themselves in a race against the notorious Ivan Ivanovitch Sakharine to get to the treasure of Unicron first.
The Adventures of Tintin is undoubtedly one of the most visually stunning movies in Spielberg’s iconic filmography. Its immersive and top-notch animation keeps us hooked. The film also serves as a faithful adaptation of Herge’s work by capturing the spirit of the memorable characters. Additionally, the film’s story is well-paced and filled with lots of mystery, action, and humour. Andy Serkis’ voice performance as Captain Haddock and Sir Francis Haddock steals the spotlight. Moreover, some of the film’s moments remind us of Spielberg’s classic films, such as the Indiana Jones series and Jurassic Park.
Overall, the movie is a must-watch for all Spielberg fans and a worthy addition to his legendary filmography.
