If there’s one film that you’re planning to watch this weekend and if you have a Netflix subscription, French film ‘Athena‘ should be your go to. Anurag Kashyap also agrees. This 2022 French tragedy film is an adrenaline rush and a tight knit action masterpiece that would not let you breathe. The film had it’s premiere at the 79th Venice International Film Festival and even competed for the Golden Lion.
The ace film-maker posted a recommendation tweet yesterday about the film.

Set in a French banlieu, the plot of Athena follows the chaos erupting in a neighborhood in the wake of the brutal killing of Idir. The story then focuses on the plight of the deceased’s brothers Karim, Moktar, and Abdel. The film is said to be having important political undertones besides some of the most visceral action set-pieces ever.
Lauded as the most originally directed action film since ‘Mad Max : Fury Road’, Athena is currently streaming on Netflix India as well. Directed by Romain Gavras and written by Romain Gavras, Ladj Ly (Les Miserables, 2018) and Elias Belkeddar, the film stars Dali Benssalah, Sami Slimane, Anthony Bajon, Ouassini Embarek and Alexis Manenti amongst others in major roles. Head straight and add the film on your watchlist right now. Stay tuned for more similar recommendations.
