You must have seen some of the works by Rituparno Ghosh. He is the most influential filmmaker of Bengali Cinema after Ray, Ritwik Ghatak and Mrinal Sen. Mithun Chakroborty is known for roles of anger and angst and he played rough and tough protagonists throughout his life. But in Titli, you can see a very different Mithun, a Mithun who is soft, mild, and does very subtle minimalistic but convincing acting. And there is nothing to say about Konkona and Aparna.
Titli tells the story of a young girl who is a fan of a movie star and worships him day and night. When she gets the opportunity to meet the the man of her worship, there is a chance that her crush may turn into a relationship as well. But life has some different plans and a sudden twist in the film reveals that the the mother of the girl was in a relationship with the actor long ago.
The movie had its theatrical release in 2002 and was appreciated by critics and audiences. It was one of the films that compelled the educated middle class Bengali cinephile to return to the theaters after a long term of cringe illogical releases. ‘Titli’ is available to watch for free on Disney+Hotstar.
