The Punisher, starring Jon Bernthal, is undoubtedly one of the most underrated projects in the MCU’s treasure. It deserved more seasons, but sometimes things just do not work the way we want, right?
Serving as a spin-off to Daredevil (2015-18), The Punisher is officially a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Bernthal plays Frank Castle, aka the big bad Punisher, in the show. In Season 1, he kills the guys who were responsible for murdering his family and uncovers a bigger conspiracy than what happened to his family. The second season revolves around the duo of Frank Castle and Amy Bendix.
The thing that clearly stands out in the former Netflix superhero series is Bernthal’s hard-hitting and realistic take on the protagonist. The way he delves into his character’s traumatic past and brings out both the best and the worst in him is just sensational. The Punisher serves as a perfect blend of bloodiness, violence, realistic and entertaining action sequences, and hard-hitting acting performances. In addition, the series does not shy from dealing with many political and social issues, like conspiracy, corruption, and the effect of war on veterans. Overall, the show is a must-watch!
All of Marvel shows were removed from Netflix in March 2022. Later that year, Disney regained the license for them, including The Punisher, and started streaming them on Disney+ platform later that year.
