Christian Bale is one of those few actors in Hollywood who are known to display 100% commitment towards their on-screen characters. He throws himself completely into his characters, often undergoing dramatic physical transformations to embody them fully. From playing a serial killer in ‘American Psycho’ to portraying Batman in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy, Bale has done it all. One of his most underrated films, The Pale Blue Eye, is available on Netflix. And we strongly recommend you to watch it!
The Pale Blue Eye revolves around detective Augustus Landor (Christian Bale) in 1830 West Point, New York. The US Military Academy seeks his help to investigate a series of murders at the academy. Along the way, he receives significant aid from Edgar Allan Poe (Harry Melling), a young military cadet.
Both Bale and Melling received acclaim for their incredible performances in this Scott Cooper directional. The former gives a compellingly intense performance as Augustus Landor. On the other hand, Melling adds a haunting quality to his performance as Edgar Allan Poe. In addition, Cooper maintains an eerie atmosphere, which gets immense support from the movie’s dark visuals, moody score, and gothic setting. For some, the story was a bit convoluted. While the remaining viewers have appreciated the film’s ability to brilliantly explore sensitive topics like grief and loss.
In addition to Christian Bale and Harry Melling, Netflix’s The Pale Blue Eye stars Gillian Anderson, Lucy Boynton, Robert Duvall, and more talents. Stream it now!
