Park Chan-wook is arguably South Korea’s greatest Film maker. Boasting of a critically and commercially acclaimed filmography ranging from thrillers, crime dramas, mystery dramas to dark romances, He opened up South Korean cinema to the global populace in the capacity of director-writer-producer. His last outing ‘ The Handmaiden ‘ (2016) starring Kim Min-hee, Kim Tae-ri, Cho Jin-woong and Ha Jung-woo was a Bafta winner as well as a Palme D’or nominee.
Park Chan-wook‘s next Feature film titled ‘Decision to Leave‘ starring Tang Wei and Park Hae-il, supposedly another mystery drama hasn’t released any promotional material yet. But he dropped a short film titled ‘ Life is But a Dream ‘ exclusively shot on iphone 13 Pro recently.
‘ Life is But a Dream ‘ is a martial arts fantasy piece centred around an undertaker who accidentally steals the coffin of an ancient swordsman thereby awakening his ghost. The Korean auteur’s visual flair and expertise in handling wide lenses can be evidently seen in the short. ‘Life is But a Dream’ is a fun and equally whacky cultural short that’s also well enacted. Kim Ok-vin reunites with Park Chan-wook after Thirst (2009) and then there’s Time to Hunt (2020) fame Park Jeong Min and the multifaceted Yoo Hae-jin at their effortless bests.
