Warner Brother’s president Toby Emmerich shared that it is the filmmaker who will decide the quality of a movie. He said to the Deadline “Quality is the most important factor for a studio, and the biggest thing you can do to influence quality is the filmmaker that you hire”. A movie is a vision of the director. When external forces interrupt in their filmmaking liberty it will affect the movie also. Even the policies of censor boards can make the film different from the original.
Warner Brothers are infamous for their interruption in film making. When the president himself says about the liberty in film making, it is a good news to filmmakers, Especially to DC movies. Because often Warner Brothers and DC film directors didn’t go along well. We witnessed the controversy over Justice league when they completely ignored the version of Zack Snyder and released Joss Whedon’s cut which became a disaster. And when Snyder’s cut was out it turned out to be a masterpiece.
It seems WB has finally realized their mistake and in the new Batman where Matt Reeves had the full control. And as reflected in the movie, it has been running successfully everywhere. This will reflect on the future projects of DC movies. The unwanted intervention was the problem over the quality of DC movies. And now When Emmerich said there will be no compromise over the quality, DC will enter a new pool of possibilities where the filmmakers have the freedom to explore the various aspects of DC contents.
This new vision of DC was visible when Emerich came to the top in 2018, we saw Tod Philps joker and the new Suicide Squad making headlines. This will provide a bright future to DC movies and fans wanted this since the ‘Justice League’ became a joke.
