No more cinema mementos or keychains; now you can officially gift a ticket to your fellow cinema fans. WBD is taking a page out of ‘Angel Studios’ book, and they seem to be doing something right.
On Wednesday, the ticket sale for the WBD movie ‘The Colour Purple’ went live, and they are adopting the same gimmick as ‘Sound of Freedom’. The ‘pay it forward’ feature of ‘Sound of Freedom’ helped it become a summer hit, and this strategy will undoubtedly benefit a movie that is already highly anticipated.
As for the tickets, fans can either buy them for themselves or gift them to others, and this applies to both the digital and physical forms of tickets.
Both options are priced at $20 each. Additionally, if tickets are $10 or less, audiences can use the $20 gift for two tickets. Now, as WBD is recognizing it as a gift item, it will encourage more and more people to actually buy them for their friends and family, adding a special touch to their lives.
Furthermore, ‘Sound of Freedom’s’ whopping $184M box office performance is encouraging WBD to move forward with such a strategy, as the former sold around 29 million tickets, a mind-boggling number.
Now, the festive season will work wonders for the film, as the gifting season will indeed be beneficial. However, one factor that could affect the film’s earnings is that WBD will be releasing nearly three films in the span of 10 days and will have to compete with a DC film and ‘Wonka’.
The film will be released on 25th December, and if this strategy works, it could provide direction for future projects and films, especially for franchise films where they can actually sell signed tickets or additional merchandise with the gifted tickets.
