The fourth season of HBO’s critically acclaimed science-fiction Western dystopian television show ‘Westworld’ has reportedly resumed production (via Deadline). The filming of the show was earlier halted because of COVID-19 positive case that resulted in a two-day production break.
However, this is not the first show which had to temporarily suspend filming activities as shows like ‘House of the Dragon’ (the much anticipated Game of Thrones prequel), ‘American Horror Story’, and the second season of Netflix period drama ‘Bridgerton’ were all rowing the same boat.
Another interesting update for Westworld Season 4 is the possibility of ‘Breaking Bad’ actor Aaron Paul and Tessa Thompson’s characters from the show sharing screen space for the first time. Although the show’s main plot is being kept under the wraps, it is being speculated that Aaron Paul’s war veteran character would play an important role in the show’s storyline to initiate a war between humans and the hosts who have escaped Westworld.
Westworld’s filming is being held at Melody Ranch Motion Picture Studio in California – the same place where the show’s co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy filmed the last three seasons of the show. The studio is also well known for other western-themed projects such as Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’ & ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ and HBO’s ‘Deadwood’, amongst others.
The underlying premise of ‘Westworld’ revolves around the titular, one-of-its-kind wild-west themed amusement park whose residents are programmed, human-like android hosts. The fictional park encourages its high-paying human guests to indulge their fantasies and desires without any resistance from these android hosts.
The show, which premiered in the year 2016, has aired three successful seasons so far. While the upcoming fourth season of ‘Westworld’ is expected to release somewhere in the year 2022.
