The trailer for the latest upcoming Netflix series was released yesterday and it grabbed quite an attention. The series is named ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’ and it is based on the real incident of the hijacking of Flight IC 814 of Indian Airlines that took place in 1999. The series is directed by Anubhav Sinha (famed for his Article 15) and boasts a huge cast that includes Naseeruddin Shah, Vijay Varma, Aditya Srivastav, Kumud Mishra, Dia Mirza, Pankaj Kapur etc.
The trailer was released yesterday and by the looks of it, it is really promising. The visuals of the plane especially look very picturesque. The series has its attention to minute details in a very accurate manner. For instance, to elevate the seriousness and grimness of the situation, the scenes have been shot in low light. The series seems a very accurate description of the actual case with each and every associated name being taken without alterations. The trailer depicts the focus of the series not only on the actual incident, but also on its reception by people (represented through Pooja Gaur, playing the wife of Vijay Varma’s character), the media (by the character of Diya Mirza) and the geo-political scenario (by the government and intelligence).
The best part about the series, as evident from the trailer, are the performances of the actors. Naseeruddin Shah, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra and Pankaj Kapoor look phenomenal in their roles as always. Their performance speaks about the graveness of the situation. But the show stealer performance has been portrayed by Vijay Varma. The look of Vijay Varma closely resembles that of Captain Sharan Dev who was the captain of the actual IC 814 flight that was hijacked in 1999. His expressions show the mixed feelings of shock, fear, anxiety and the attempt to keep all the feelings calm to handle the situations perfectly.
The series will be releasing on 29th August, next week and is something that one must not miss. It is the perfect adaptation of the nightmare the country went through in December 1999, when the actual incident took place.
