Prasar Bharati OTT is just a few days away from getting launched. The ministry has already clarified that the platform will be launching on November 20th in Goa. The platform becomes quite special as it will serve as a treasure of archival content that would be nothing less than a Candyland for students and bibliophiles.
More importantly, it may provide us with content that our elders in the family like. So, that’s a new thing in itself.
But those are the good things. What are the challenges for the platform?
The biggest one will be the newness in the market. The other platforms are very well established in their kind of content and one new platform entering the market will be a little difficult.
The next one will be the content. Prasar Bharati will never be very sensational in its original content. Quite obviously government has its own restrictions and it will not host anything explicit or perhaps even religiously offensive. We do realise that good content does not really need “skin and swear” but sensation sells and there can’t be any two opinions about it.
