What Does The Majestic 6 Week Run Of Gangubai Kathiawadi Say?

Just like every week, Netflix revealed the top 10 most-watched films/series in the last week. After 6 weeks, Gangubai Kathiawadi is finally out of the global most watched non-English film chart.

However, RRR is holding the fort for Indian films. But that deserves a whole separate conversation.

Here it is about a female-centric beautiful film which was immensely celebrated by the audiences. Instead of the so-called mass appeal, it had a social message, instead of illogical sequences, it was filled with typical Sanjay Leela Bhansali beauty.

Mass appeal films have been limited to male-centric action films but we often forget that there can be much more than that.

Gangubai Kathiawadi enjoyed a successful theatrical run and it established many unprecedented records on OTT which were unheard of.

The bottom line is if thoughtful films are written, directed and executed better then the mass will appreciate them.

It was unimaginable that an Indian film would get celebrated globally to that extent. That too when it is female-centric. But you must be acquainted with whatever happened to the film.

Regardless, now all eyes rest on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s own Heeramandi which he is making for Netflix. It has to emerge as a much greater success, only then can Netflix India stand out in prominence.
