The documentary on the 90’s special pulp Hindi movies, ‘Cinema Marte Dum Tak‘ is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video and audiences seem to be pleased with it.
Prime Video India is taking baby steps towards documentaries and Cinema Marte Dum Tak is a very important documentary that had the potential to elevate the platform’s new venture into the genre of documentaries.
But it seems as though they are not focusing too much into the marketing and promotions of ‘Cinema Marte Dum Tak’. It is such a beautiful production with so much of nostalgia associated with it. Yet there is no buzz around it and it premiered it very silently. Prime Video India takes the job of promotion very seriously, the way it is promoting ‘Farzi’ is spectacular. It even marketed ‘Mirzapur’ when there was no update about upcoming seasons and there was no buzz altogether.
Had the platform put some more effort in the marketing of Cinema Marte Dum Tak, it would have easily reached a greater audience.
The documentary takes four directors of the 90s, J Neelam, Vinod Talwar, Dilip Gulati and Kishan Shah and explores the B grade and C grade films of the time. It is much more about the celebration of the purpose of massy Cinema, that is entertainment and only entertainment. Big names like Vasan Bala are associated with it and it is sad to see that it is not getting the hype it deserves.
Netflix has done a spectacular job in the field of documentaries and the way it has marketed docu series like ‘House Of Secrets’ and ‘Indian Predator’ is truly enviable. Amazon Prime Video should learn something from Netflix and start putting more efforts on the marketing of unique original projects.
