Since the release of the Academy award winning psychological thriller Joker (2019), the news of a potential sequel to the film was doing rounds. Its been a week since the Todd Phillips broke out the big news that Joker’s sequel is in the works, after like 3 years. Todd Phillips also shared the front page of the eagerly anticipated sequel’s script, titled ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’.
However, the film’s title “Folie a Deux” brought in as many eye-balls as it could because the words mean a rare, shared delusional disorder that two people share and experience at the same time. This sprouted so many fan-theories that revolved around ‘Harley Quinn’ : Joker’s key associate and her character’s possible inclusion in the sequel.
The latest news that we hear about the film as reported by DEADLINE is that Pop Icon and Oscar winner Lady Gaga is in early talks to star opposite Joaquin Phoenix in Warner Bros.’ Joker: Folie à Deux ‘.
Gaga, whose last appearance was in Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci where she played ‘Patrizia Reggiani’, is approached to play Harley Quinn — the Arkham Asylum pysch who falls in love with her patient Arthur Fleck aka Joker and goes on to become his key associate. It is also said that Gaga’s version of Harley Quinn will be a part of DC universe much like Phoenix’ Joker, and different from Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn in ‘The Suicide Squad’ films. However, further details on the Joker sequel’s plot has been kept under the wraps.
All we know so far is that Todd Phillips will return to the directorial chair to helm the sequel. Joker (2019) followed a mentally troubled stand-up comedian Arthur Fleck and his downward journey to become an iconic villain in the DC Universe. The film grossed more than $1 billion worldwide and brought Joaquin Phoenix his first acting Oscar. Although comparisons are inevitable and Margot Robbie has set a huge benchmark, we can’t wait to see Lady Gaga’s version of Harley Quinn as well. What about you? Yay or Nay? Stay tuned for more updates.
