It seems as if 2024 will prove to be the year of great biographical dramas. Biopics as they’re widely known are a source of immense speculation for film fanatics. Especially after they have to follow the lead of masterpieces like Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’, John Ridely’s ‘Shirley’, and Paramount Pictures’ ‘One Love’.
It is evident enough that biopic genre isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Here’s a concise rundown of upcoming biopics you should be on the lookout for:
1. ‘A Complete Unknown’
Timothee Chalamet will be donning the hat of legendary folk musician Bob Dylan as he relocates from Minnesota to New York City. Director James Mangold revealed that Bob Dylan annotated the script of the movie himself and has been incredibly supportive of it.
2. Bruce Springsteen’s Biopic
While no official announcements have been made yet, ‘The Bear’ star Jeremy Allen White is in talks of depicting the making of ‘Nebraska’, the stripped-down 1982 album that marked a new artistic direction for the iconic musician.
3. Linda Ronstadt’s Biopic
Selena Gomez is all set to play the country-rock legend and 11-time Grammy winner in a film directed by David O. Russell. The music movie is currently in pre-production and more details are to be expected soon.
4. ‘The Appearance’
Sebastian Stan, famous for his portrayal of Bucky Barnes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will be seen next playing Donald Trump in a biography directed by Iranian filmmaker Ali Abbasi. The film will be an exploration of power and ambition set against a backdrop of corruption and deceit.
5. ‘Michael’
The King of Pop, Michael Jackson will be depicted by his nephew Jaafar Jackson in Lionsgate’s newest project. The film is all set to include the various aspects of his life like his greatest performances.
6. Maria Callas Biopic
Veteran actor Angelina Jolie will be next seen playing Maria Callas, a legendary opera singer. The film will depict the ‘tumultuous, beautiful, and tragic story of the life of the world’s greatest opera singer’ and conclude with her death in Paris in the 1970s.
