What We Understood From The Matrix: Resurrections Teaser

What We Understood From The Matrix: Resurrections Teaser

IIn case you guys missed it, the teaser for Matrix 4 AKA ‘The Matrix: Resurrections‘ dropped on multiple social media platforms yesterday and people have been losing their minds. There are many crazy things that happen in the teaser that you will read down below, but what is, even more, crazier is that there are 180 versions of the teaser currently available to be viewed. And you can check all of them out on the official Matrix website https://thechoiceisyours.whatisthematrix.com/uk/

For now, let’s take a look at everything we have understood from the teaser so far:

Clip Roulette
On the previously mentioned website, the user/viewer is given an option – select a red pill or a blue pill. Depending on the choice, you will get a 45-second clip which will be voiced over by either Yahya Abdul-Mateen II or Neil Patrick Harris (red pill and blue pill choices respectively). The website has an in-built program within the teaser that tells the exact time to the viewer, making it seem like both characters are talking to the viewer. But if you go back and rewatch the teaser, the clips featured in the teaser change, due to a program within the trailer. This is where the above-mentioned 180 versions of the Matrix teaser comes from.
In a way, this gives off a feeling that we, ourselves are stuck within the matrix. The exact time mentioning is very spooky and since the teaser only keeps changing one or two clips at a time per viewing, we keep getting a sense of deja vu, while watching it.
What a way to bring back the hype.

The Callbacks
Oof. Besides the aforementioned “programming tricks”, the callbacks within this teaser are also hyping ‘Matrix 4’ quite a lot. There is a scene where Jessica Henwick is running along the walls, similar to how Trinity did in the earlier films. Neo getting punched rapidly in the stomach by an Agent is very similar to how Morpheus took a beating from Agent Smith. Even showing the black cat for a second is a crazy good callback.

A New Neo?
Jonathan Groff’ character is apparently going through what ‘Keanu Reeves‘ Neo went through in the first film. This seems to tell us that there are parallels between the first movie and we expect Groff to be latest version of Neo.

Different Matrix
From what we can see, the matrix withing ‘Matrix 4’ seems to be a world that is way past the year 1999 (which is the year The Matrix is supposed to be in). Since the people of Zion and the Machines have had peace for some time, we expect this Matrix to be a completely new program – hence why there is a new Morpheus and a new Antagonist.

Morpheus – A Program?
Similar to how we learn that Neo is a “program” created called the One – could Morpheus be a program too? According to this teaser, he very well could be. And it would make sense in some way. Neo will always be the one who pulls everyone forward, but if there is one person who signifies hope for humanity – that person is Morpheus. If this is true, then we are very likely getting a new Anagram with his name.

Trailer Not Far Behind
The trailer for the Matrix 4 film will drop in tomorrow, on 9th September 2021.
