Thanks to Zack Snyder’s popularity, Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver, opened with impressive viewership numbers. The second part, just like its predecessor, faced the wrath of critics. But it did not stop the sequel from topping Netflix’s Top 10 Movies list (April 15 – April 21, 2024). Part Two has been viewed for over 44.2 million hours by 21.4 million viewers, which is lower than Part One’s figures: over 54.1 million hours by nearly 23.9 million viewers.
The Scargiver’s ending laid the foundation for a third Rebel Moon movie, which could focus on the unresolved conflict between Sofia Boutella’s Kora and Fra Fee’s Balisarius. Snyder has plans to make four Rebel Moon films. However, the future of these entries depends heavily on the viewership figures of Part One and Part Two.
Given both entries’ viewership figures, Netflix should not have any problem greenlighting a third Rebel Moon film. It seems like a large portion of the viewers might have waited for the sequel to arrive on Netflix before deciding to watch both of them. From April 15 to April 21, ‘A Child of Fire’ earned an additional 5.5 million views due to the release of ‘The Scargiver’. Now, the first film’s total viewership has reached 78.4 million views, which will increase more in the upcoming days.
The viewership numbers of ‘A Child of Fire’ and ‘The Scargiver’ will improve after the arrival of their respective director’s cuts on Netflix later this year. This will likely be taken into consideration by Netflix when deciding whether to greenlight a third Rebel Moon film. Stay tuned for more updates.
