What’s Next For Disney’s Star Wars Universe?

By Binged Bureau - Dec 19, 2020 @ 04:12 pm
What’s Next For Disney’s Star Wars Universe?

Season 2 of The Mandalorian just ended on Friday, 18th December 2020, on Disney+ Hotstar, and we were treated to probably the best Mandalorian episode of the television show. The web series ended on a brilliant note and The Book of Boba Fett post-credit scene was a good set-up. But what does that mean for The Mandalorian series?

The series ended with the Chapter 16: The Rescue and as the name suggests Din Djarin AKA Mando AKA The Mandalorian sets off to rescue the child with some allies (both old and new). And unless you have been living under a rock, (or not staying up to date with or watching The Mandalorian), you would have seen that this season have had some brilliant character cameos – Bo-Katan Kryze, Ahsoka Tano and Boba (freaking) Fett.

The reveal of these characters (among others) and its response by fans and audience helped Disney’s in realizing the potential in the Star Wars Universe and is expanding on the reverse-Star Trek idea by creating spin-offs – 9 new spin-offs in fact. Out of those 9 – Star Wars: Ahsoka is going to feature Ahsoka Tano portrayed by, Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic will most likely feature Cara Dune, portrayed Gina Carano (from The Mandalorian) and Star Wars: The Bad Batch will have Bo-Katan portrayed by Katee Sackhoff. All of these spin-offs were announced during Disney’s Annual Investors Day Event, while The Mandalorian’s season 2 was still on-going.

But at the end credit scene we are shown that Boba Fett and Fennec Shand have returned to Tatooine and taken over Jabba the Hutt’s palace. We are then shown that The Book of Boba Fett will be revealed during December of 2021. But since it was not announced during the aforementioned Disney’s Annual Investors Day Event, we were not completely sure, if this will be the next chapter of The Mandalorian (all episodes are called chapters in The Mandalorian) or if we are actually seeing another spin-off. Since the release dates for both The Mandalorian Season 3 and The Book of Boba Fett are coinciding, we are presuming that the later will be a chapter within the former (most likely the first one of season 3 itself).

And with how season 3 ended, it wouldn’t be surprising if we saw a time-skip in the third season of The Mandalorian. Given that these are the events before Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we might get a time skip to the events after Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker so as to keep some continuity within the Star Wars Universe and more importantly, the child will have grown up by then (if certain things happened to make sure the child was safe).

For now we will just have to wait and see for Jon Favreau to finish writing (or start writing) the third season of The Mandalorian. So in the meantime, both seasons of The Mandalorian are currently available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
