Probably the Nobel Prize in the entertainment industry, that’s a good way to estimate the valuation of the grandeur of Oscars. And now, they are expanding in terms of categories.
The Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announces a new category and unlike most of their ‘woke’ tactics, this one will definitely benefit the industry.
From 2025, during their 98th installment of the award, there will be an Oscar category for the best achievement in casting.
This obviously will bring a breath of fresh air and will obviously bring more to the table. Now, the art of casting should definitely be more than the ‘Best Actor/Actress’ and ‘Best Supporting Actress/Actor’, it will be more appreciative towards the whole balance of the events.
Besides appreciating the entirety of the cast, this new award will also give credit to the Casting Directors who always were underappreciated.
Also, since 2001, this is the first time the Academy will introduce a new category into the mix, a pretty necessary one. In 2001, a new category of Best Animated Feature Film was introduced in the ceremony.
“Casting directors play an essential role in filmmaking, and as the Academy evolves, we are proud to add casting to the disciplines that we recognize and celebrate,” a statement from the Academy’s CEO, Bill Kramer.
And Janet Yang, the president, shared a wholesome message, “We congratulate our Casting Directors Branch members on this exciting milestone and for their commitment and diligence throughout this process.”
Now, after the introduction, the number of Oscars increases to 24.
Though the category does sound interesting, there might be a little itch. For the past couple of years, Hollywood has been promoting inclusion which is definitely a great step for everyone; the exposure of beautiful cinema should be appreciated by everyone.
There is a slight possibility that the Academy might favor casts which are more inclusive, but again, that’s just speculation.
