Telugu period comedy drama film ‘Skylab‘ released in Indian theatres on 4th December, to good reviews from audiences and critics. Now, OTT viewers are waiting eagerly for the film to premiere on streaming. Being a Telugu film, other language speakers haven’t yet caught Skylab in the theatres. A huge number of Telugu speaking public too hasn’t watched Skylab in theatres, for fear of the dreaded Covid-19. OTT is their only hope of enjoying Skylab in the comfort and safety of their homes. The primary question in the minds of viewers is “when and where to watch Skylab on OTT in India”?
We at Binged have got you definite information on where to watch Skylab on OTT. The post-theatrical streaming rights for Skylab have been bagged by homegrown streamer, SonyLIV. So the film will premiere on SonyLIV soon. Skylab released in theatres on 4th December. Going by the 4-week theatrical window, the film should have premiered on SonyLIV on 1st or 2nd January. But since that didn’t happen, Skylab is most likely to release on SonyLIV on 7th January or on 14th January, as a Sankranti release on the platform.
Skylab is a film that is unique in several ways. Not only does it have elements of sci-fi, but it also plucks an incredible incident from real life, to tell a fun-filled, intriguing story. In the July of 1979, US space station Skylab came crashing down from its orbit in space to land on Earth. The incident spread terrifying fear among people that the space station would fall on their city or town and spread destruction all around.
Funnily, the most scared were the people of a Telangana city called Karimnagar. They feared that the space station would fall from the sky straight into Karimnagar. Strange incidents were reported from Karimnagar in July 1979. People abandoned their homes to migrate to other cities. Many sold off their fields and property dirt cheap, to move to religious places like Tirupati in the belief that God would keep them safe. Rich people hid their wealth in the wells in their fields, and so on. The film Skylab captures all these anecdotes and more, to weave a funny, thought-provoking and comical tale.
Skylab is written and directed by debutant filmmaker, Vishvak Khanderao. It is produced by Byte Features in association with Nithya Menen Company. Skylab stars Nithya Menen, Satyadev Kancharana and Rahul Ramakrishna in pivotal roles.
