A story as old as time: Art not only inspires art but also propagates it!
Animated movies are all the rage right now with some highly anticipated tiles upcoming. One of them is Disney / Pixar’s well-awaited sequel to its Oscar-winning 2015 film ‘Inside Out’, the animated feature that brought human emotions to life.
The sequel will follow the now-teenager Riley as she learns to grapple with the transition from childhood to puberty. The plot follows as she deals with two new troublemaking emotions: envy and anxiety in the throes of adolescence.
(Un)surprisingly, the film that is estimated to be the highest opener at the international box office of the year so far, even inching out the superhits ‘Dune: Part Two’ and ‘Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire’, has been inspired by Adam Sandler’s adrenaline-packed thriller ‘Uncut Gems’.
Well, not exactly. The shaky, anxiety-inducing cinematography of the A24 title inspired the new emotion, Anxiety. Similarly, it is not uncommon for films to have been inspired by other pieces of cinema. Examples include Christopher Nolan’s response to the inspiration he derived from the James Bond movies: one of the best mind-bending films of all time ‘Inception’.
The Oscar-winning ‘The Shape of Water’ was also created as a result of director Guillermo Del Toro’s dislike of a movie ending he saw as a child!
