Popular films like Vikram Vedha and Bhediya are nowhere to be found on OTT even after several months of their theatrical release. The digital rights of the films rested with Voot Select which has been in severe inactivity for so many months now.
The delay in the OTT release was justified in the wait for the possible merger of Jio Cinema with Voot Select. As you may already know, both platforms are owned by Viacom 18 which is a part of the Reliance group.
Needless to say, both of them need a total to revamp as the services they offer are not only poor but also scant.
The projected merger of the platforms came into the news after the UI change at Jio Cinema which was set to be solidified at the advent of IPL. Quite obviously the fan following of the IPL would go frenzy behind the streaming and wouldn’t hesitate to purchase the subscription if required.
But IPL is streaming free on Jio Cinema and there is still no clarity about the merger.
Things have been unnecessarily delayed and it has severely hampered the OTT prospect of Vikram Vedha and Bhediya. The films are slowly fading away from memory lane of people and it’s high we get an official update about the two buzzy films.
Anyways the merger won’t be sold based on two films only. Prospects such as Taali, and Asur 2 will be very much needed for the platform. Let’s see when or if Jio Cinema and Voot Select become one.
