The winners of the 2023 edition of the International Emmy Awards were announced yesterday. The 50+ nominees spanned twenty countries and six continents. As far as Indian winners are concerned, Vir Das shared the Best Comedy Series Award (for Vir Das: Landing) with the UK series ‘Derry Girls’. Moreover, Balaji Telefilms founder Ekta Kapoor was honored with the 2023 International Emmy Directorate Award.
Besides these Emmy awards for India, there were two disappointments as well. Jim Sarbh and Shefali Shah, who were nominated for the ‘Best Actor’ / ‘Best Actress’ categories at Emmy 2023, for their roles in ‘Rocket Boys’ and ‘Delhi Crime’ Season-2 respectively, could not bring home the Emmys despite their outstanding performances.
Because Jim Sarbh was beaten by Martin Freeman for his performance in the cop drama series ‘The Responder’. On the other hand, Shefali Shah was outranked at the Emmys by Karla Souza for her role in the Mexican sports drama ‘Dive’ aka ‘La Caida’.
Most of us might not have watched these Emmy winning titles namely ‘The Responder’ and ‘Dive’. But the question is: are they worth watching? Besides, are they streaming on any Indian OTT platform as of now?
Let us tell you that both these Emmy winners ‘Dive’ and ‘The Responder’ have received 100% critics’ scores on reviews aggregation portal Rotten Tomatoes. While ‘Dive’ movie is currently streaming in India on Amazon Prime Video, but ‘The Responder’ is currently not available on any Indian streaming service but since it’s an Emmy winner now, we might expect to soon start streaming on Indian OTT.
In ‘Dive’, Karla Souza plays the role of an experienced diver who gets the last chance to compete at the Olympics. And ‘The Responder’ features Martin Freeman as a police officer who is dealing with some problems of his own and how he gets a chance for redemption.
