The best we had was JioTV, as La Liga has been on and off from Indian OTT platforms for quite some time now. Meanwhile, Serie A was being streamed on VOOT, but now a Dubai-based company is bringing them together.
So, what’s the deal?
Galaxy Racer is now the official broadcaster of La Liga in India, along with the Italian Serie A. La Liga has also signed an astronomical 15-year contract with GXR worth €3 billion. This deal will definitely boost Serie A as well, helping the league expand not only in India but also in the UAE.
As for the potential of the deal, India is a booming ground for sports streaming. With many fans disappointed by the quality and infrastructure of Indian football, they often turn to international leagues. Teams like Real Madrid and Barcelona have a massive fanbase in India, which will undoubtedly help La Liga generate more revenue.
Regarding Serie A, although the league is losing some of its charm, a financial boost and cash injection can only benefit the platform.
For those who love streaming both leagues, GXR will be the one-stop solution. It’s uncertain whether we will still be able to stream these leagues on JioTV after this deal, but even if we can, GXR won’t face much of a threat, as JioTV has an abysmal UI and worse picture quality.
