This Malayalam actor started out as a crowd-pleasing romantic lead in the late 90s. As he continued to perform the same role over and over again into the mid-2000s, he slowly lost his marketability and finally took a break from acting after a string of flops. The actor made a comeback in a satirical comedy in a very different comedic role, which he was not what he was known for at the time, which became a surprise hit. It showed that this change in image was exactly what he needed and he continued to play multiple different roles, shedding his “good boy” image and now Kunchacko has become a versatile actor. Niram
Among his multiple “good boy” films, Niram and Aniyathipravu (in which he debuted) are two of his best. Both films show the brilliant onscreen chemistry portrayed by Kunchacko Boban and Shalini, and they were a brilliant couple to watch on the silver screen during the late 90s and early 2000s. Niram follows two best friends Sona and Aby, who have known each other since childhood. When Aby falls in love with Sona, many complications stand in his way, including marriage proposals for both of them. This film can be streamed on Disney+ Hotstar.
How Old Are You?
Although he has more of a supporting role in this film, Kunchacko plays it quite brilliantly. The film follows a middle-aged woman, Nirupama who aspired to go to move to Ireland for a better life. Check this movie out on MX Player.
Virus
Kinchacko Boban plays a role unlike his normal ones in the multi-starrer. The actor portrayed the chief doctor in this accurate depiction of the true events leading up to the Nipah virus outbreak in Kerala and how it got managed. This brilliant medical thriller is currently streaming on the Zee5 app and Amazon Prime Video.
Anjaam Pathiraa
Another role showing his versatility, this time as a consulting criminologist. When a string of serial murders attracts his attention, he has to race against the clock to stop the killer. This crime thriller is streaming on MX Player.
Traffic
One of the first movies which depicted a change in direction of the style of Malayalam films, Kunchacko Boban plays another doctor in this road thriller. The film follows a film actor as he rushes to find a heart suitable for his dying daughter. When he does find a viable heart, circumstance force him and the ambulance he is in, to face heavy traffic. Take Off
This thriller drama is based on the ordeal faced by Indian nurses in Iraq, back in 2004. Parvathy Thiruvothu, Kunchacko Boban and Fahadh Faasil star in this thriller drama. The film follows Sameera and her fellow nurses being taken hostage in Iraq, by terrorists. Indian ambassador, Manoj has to use his wits to rescue the nurses and get them safely out of the country, alive.
