French filmmaker Michel Gondry is renowned for a distinctive visual style that won him an Academy award for writing the critically acclaimed ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ in 2004. Not only was he a screen writer for the project, he also served as the director.
His upcoming directorial venture is a coming-of-age musical set in Virginia Beach in 1977. The film is all set to draw inspiration from American hip-hop icon Pharrell Williams (a producer on the project) and his life as one of the most successful and influential figures in the genre. The musical will also be influenced by Virginia’s Atlantis Apartments and the neighborhood where Williams grew up.
Grammy-winning hip-hop and R&B artist Missy Elliott is the newest addition to the yet-untitled feature from Universal Pictures. While she has not been seen working in film and television over the course of her decades-long career very often, she has appeared on Fox’s ‘Star’ and the dance-themed feature ‘Honey’ opposite Jessica Alba. In 2023, she became the first female rapper in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Starring alongside her will be prominent names like Kelvin Harrison Jr, Oscar-winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Halle Bailey, and Oscar-nominee Brian Tyree Henry. Other details like characters and the release date, however, are undisclosed as of now!
