After months of waiting, Marvel Studios has finally released a long and stacked cast for Avengers: Doomsday, which is set to be directed by the Russo Brothers (Anthony and Joe Russo, who recently helmed Netflix’s The Electric State).
Due to the poor reception of Kang as a villain and Marvel’s split with Jonathan Majors, who portrayed him, Kevin Feige announced last summer that Avengers 5 was undergoing a major shift. Soon after, the title was changed from Avengers: Kang Dynasty to Avengers: Doomsday.
So far, the confirmed cast members for Doomsday are as follows:
- Chris Hemsworth (Thor)
- Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm, aka The Invisible Woman)
- Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson, aka Captain America)
- Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes, aka The Winter Soldier)
- Letitia Wright (Shuri, aka Black Panther)
- Wyatt Russell (John Walker, aka U.S. Agent)
- Paul Rudd (Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man)
- Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm, aka The Thing)
- Tenoch Huerta Mejía (Namor)
- Simu Liu (Shang-Chi)
- Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova, aka Black Widow)
- Lewis Pullman (Bob, aka Sentry)
- Danny Ramirez (Joaquin Torres, aka Falcon)
- David Harbour (Alexei Shostakov, aka Red Guardian)
- Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm, aka The Human Torch)
- Kelsey Grammer (Hank McCoy, aka The Beast)
- Winston Duke (M’Baku)
- Hannah John-Kamen (Ava Starr, aka Ghost)
- Tom Hiddleston (Loki)
- Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier, aka Professor X)
- Ian McKellen (Erik Magnus Lehnsherr, aka Magneto)
- Alan Cumming (Kurt Wagner, aka Nightcrawler)
- Rebecca Romijn (Raven Darkholme, aka Mystique)
- James Marsden (Scott Summers, aka Cyclops)
- Channing Tatum (Remy LeBeau, aka Gambit)
- Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards, aka Mister Fantastic)
- Robert Downey Jr. (Victor Von Doom, aka Doctor Doom)
The newly announced Avengers: Doomsday cast features a mix of prominent characters from all phases of the MCU, along with characters from other Marvel franchises, such as The Fantastic Four and X-Men. Additionally, members of the Thunderbolts are included as well.
This suggests that upcoming MCU movies, especially The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Thunderbolts*, will play a crucial role in setting the stage for Avengers: Doomsday. Not only do they need to leave a lasting positive impact on critics and audiences, but they must also achieve massive financial success to justify the existence of both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Despite the impressive lineup, many fans online have pointed out that the Avengers 5 cast still feels incomplete. In response, Marvel Studios has confirmed that additional characters will be announced soon as filming for Doomsday begins.
Notably, there is no sign of Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), who was expected to play a key role when Kang was originally set as the next big villain after Thanos in the Multiverse Saga. Additionally, Tom Holland (Spider-Man) is missing from the list, which comes as a major surprise.
And what about Deadpool? Remember that scene in Deadpool & Wolverine where Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) asks the TVA about a clip showing Thor crying in Deadpool’s lap? What was that about? Could Deadpool appear in Doomsday? Only time will tell.
Rumours about Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, and Jeremy Renner returning for Avengers: Doomsday are also circulating on social media. At this point, their involvement remains uncertain.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theatres worldwide on May 1, 2026. Stay tuned for more updates!
