All movie buffs might already be aware that globally renowned Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro is adapting Mary Shelley’s 1818 cult novel ‘Frankenstein’ aka ‘The Modern Prometheus’ for the Netflix OTT platform. Until now, it is known that the ambitious film project would feature Andrew Garfield, Mia Goth, Oscar Isaac, and Christpher Waltz in important roles. However, what characters they would be playing in the Netflix movie was kept under the wraps.
As per the latest update, it has now been revealed what roles the above-mentioned actors would ostensibly play in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein movie. Before revealing that, let us tell you that the highly anticipated Netflix monster film will be set in the 19th Century period in Eastern Europe. The story would revolve around Dr. Pretorius, who must track down the monster created by Dr. Frankenstein but the monster was assumed dead forty years ago.
So, the role of the dreaded monster will be essayed by ‘Dune’ actor Oscar Isaac. On the other hand, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ actor Andrew Garfield will be seen in the role of the doctor. Mia Goth will be playing the role of the Bride and the latest addition Christopher Waltz will be seen in a European male role.
Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein movie is being made under the working title ‘Prodigal Father’. But whether it’s going to be the final title or not, remains to be seen. Filming is expected to kick off next year in February and conclude in the month of July 2024. So, the release date might be sometime in the year 2025.
For the unversed, the underlying story of ‘Frankenstein’ is set in the eighteenth century and revolves around the titular scientist Victor Frankenstein, who creates a living creature by assembling body parts from corpses, but he gets more than what he had bargained for: the feared Frankenstein’s monster.
This is obviously not the first time Mary Shelley’s novel ‘Frankenstein’ has been adapted for the screen. Right from a silent film era adaptation in 1910 to the critically and commercially successful 1931 film ‘Frankenstein’ followed by Kenneth Branagh’s film starring Robert De Niro as the monster, the list is quite long. Stay tuned to Binged for the latest updates on Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein Netflix movie tentatively titled ‘Prodigal Father’.
