Netflix’s recent announcement about Arcane ending with Season 2 is indeed heartbreaking. While many have supported the streamer’s decision, some fans believe that the engrossing story between Jinx and Vi deserves more seasons.
Arcane is undoubtedly one of the greatest video game adaptations ever. This Emmy-winning beauty from Christian Linke and Alex Yee excels in every department. Season 1 benefitted immensely from strong characters, impressive voice work (especially by Hailee Steinfeld and Ella Purnell), an intriguing storyline, mesmerising animation, and breathtaking action.
But most importantly, Arcane did something that many video game adaptations in the past have failed to do: attracting the attention of casual viewers. These were the people who never played Riot’s League of Legends video game. Yet, they managed to understand every aspect of Netflix’s adaptation. How amazing is that? This is why bidding farewell to a show like Arcane after Season 2 is too damn hard for many viewers.
However, ending Arcane with the second season makes sense too. While the story between Jinx and Vi is undeniably special, it must not overstay its welcome, just because it is capable of pulling in viewers. There’s nothing worse than TV shows that overstay their welcome. Plus, Netflix is working hard with Fortiche (animation studio) to expand the League of Legends universe. This collaboration suggests that Arcane could be just the first of many stories set in Runeterra.
Arcane Season 2 is set to premiere on Netflix in November 2024. Stay tuned for more updates.
