The Rebel Moon saga hasn’t been favorable for either Netflix or Snyder. It was bombarded with bad reviews and low ratings, leaving even the fans dissatisfied. However, the Snyder Cut always gives hope to the fans, as seen with “Justice League,” and they are eager for a comeback story.
With Netflix and Snyder announcing the dates for the Director’s Cut, there was something different: the names for the Rebel Moon Snyder Cut have been changed. The new names are as follows:
Chapter One: Chalice of Blood
Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness
But one big question remains: why did Netflix and Snyder change the titles?
Firstly, both parties want to make the fans feel that these are completely different films. They will be R-Rated, feature different dialogues, and exceed the three-hour mark. So, treating them differently is one approach. But is it really that simple?
Possibly not.
The main reason for this change, and it might be a strong case, is the bad reviews of the original Netflix cuts. With IMDb ratings of 5.6 and 5.3 and Rotten Tomatoes ratings of 21% and 15%, the films are unwatchable in most aspects.
So, the theory is that they are changing the names to escape the bad publicity. When you search the original titles, they show how poorly the films were received, and people unfamiliar with the original films would be repelled, especially after seeing the ratings.
Additionally, on social media, searching the original names highlights the negative reception. Sometimes, bad publicity is just bad publicity, and Rebel Moon might prove that. Both parties definitely needed a change and a fresh start for the Director’s Cuts. Without new titles, the results would likely have been worse.
Intelligent or not, Rebel Moon is also trying to run away from the reputation it has acquired. Now, with both cuts releasing on August 2nd, Netflix and Snyder’s partnership has a lot to prove.
