It is no news that Indian movies do fairly well at Netflix. RRR, Laal Singh Chaddha, Gangubai Kathiawadi, and more were exceptionally successful on the platform and emerged path-breaking in many ways. Particularly RRR came out as a global sensation on Netflix. However, it is merely a licensed movie and not something which Netflix made on its own.
But when we talk about series then Netflix India has hardly anything to brag about. It has been 8 long months since Madhuri Dixit’s The Fame Game was released but no series has since then grabbed any space in Netflix’s top 10 most-watched non-English series.
Even the much buzzy Mismatched Season 2 failed to appear on the list after a lot of promotional campaigns.
If we consider the data published by FlixPatrol then Mismatched Season 2 is trending mostly in the Indian subcontinent and a little bit in the gulf countries where people of Indian origin are in ample presence.
The answer lies in the cringeworthy content which is too cheesy and over the top to appeal to the international audience. Korean series often outperform American series solely due to their content but there doesn’t seem to be any improvement in the way Netflix India is making series.
Currently only Heeramandi seems to be something of International standard but it will yet again limit itself to the Indian subcontinent. The reason being their rootedness in the Indian culture.
But even beyond that, the series is something that Netflix India must work upon.
