The Book of Boba Fett will dispatch on December 29 this year. It will be available on the Disney+ streaming service.
Ever since the collab of Lucasfilm and Disney dropped The Mandalorian on the latter’s streaming service, fans began to wonder what would happen to Boba Fett? Would he ever see the day of light in a live-action series? But all that came true in the sixth episode of The Mandalorian’s sophomore instalment. Boba made a hell of a comeback and saved the titular character from the stormtroopers sent by Moff Gideon.
Despite having a small supporting role in The Empire Strikes Back (1980), he rose to a new level of global prominence. Not many characters in the franchise have been able to touch his level of popularity. How did this happen? Why do we need a proper Boba Fett series? Let’s find out!
Boba Fett’s first appearance in Star Wars
Many fans know that Boba Fett made his first worldwide theatrical appearance in the fifth episode of The Skywalker Saga. Before that, he appeared in a televised special in 1978. But all these facts are kind of incorrect.
In September 1978, Boba debuted in a live Star Wars fair organised in San Anselmo, California. He was strolling alongside Lord Vader in that parade. And then, he graced the television screens with The Holiday Special a couple of months later.
The story of Boba Fett origin
It all began with the events of Attack of the Clones (2002). Padme Amidala’s life was in constant danger after her arrival on Coruscant. Supreme Chancellor Palpatine appoints Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and young Anakin Skywalker to protect her. Soon, Master Kenobi discovers that Jango Fett, the original clone host, is responsible for organising lethal attacks on Padme. That’s when we first witness little Boba residing with his father, Jango.
The duo of father and son successfully flees from Kamino, despite the valiant efforts of Master Kenobi. Sometime later, Master Windu slashes the head of Jango Fett in an all-out war at the end of the movie. That’s when Boba decides to exact vengeance on Mace Windu. He escapes from the battlefield and meets new intergalactic bounty hunters during wartime.
During his travels, Boba meets Aurra Sing and learns all the tricks of intergalactic trade from her. He starts believing her. However, he realises that Sing was using him for her favour only. He gets arrested by the Clone Army. But he never forgives Windu for killing his father. He also comprehends that vengeance is not the only way of living.
Some years later, Boba joins the alliance of Darth Vader and becomes his right-hand man. But he met his demise in Return of the Jedi (1983) after felling into a Sarlacc’s pit.
Why do we need a Boba Fett series?
After many years of Episode VI’s release, a large portion of the fanbase believes that Boba Fett’s demise occurred at the wrong time. We also believe that the manner of his death was dissatisfying. Fans think that Boba deserves proper screen time. Additionally, his arc needs a satisfying conclusion. And they are not wrong!
Plus, we cannot forget Fennec Shand now. Her appearance in the first season of The Mandalorian certainly made things more engaging. Fans want to know more about her character. She is playing an important supporting lead in the upcoming Boba Fett series.
What should we expect from The Book of Boba Fett?
The series’ plot explores the aftermath of Jabba the Hutt’s death. The trailer showed Boba capturing Jabba’s territory. He also tried to establish a new set of rules in his new bounty hunting empire. Of course, Shand has his back in every step of his way. We can expect to witness Boba making his name in the intergalactic underworld business.

The pack of Jon Favreau, Robert Rodriguez, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Dave Filoni is returning to direct the upcoming Boba Fett instalment’s episodes. Rodriguez is the one who will helm the most episodes in this entry.
