Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Five did not get the start it needed. All eyes were on Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania as the movie was supposed to lay the proper groundwork for Kang and the upcoming Avengers films. The film may have established Jonathan Majors’ menacing character as a force to be reckoned with. But it failed in other departments such as direction, storyline, and action sequences. The writer-director duo of Peyton Reed and Jeff Loveness are still facing the wrath of fans for their ‘work’ in Marvel’s latest feature. Now, the latter has spilled some beans about who will be a part of Avengers 5.
Marvel has tasked Loveness to pen down the script of The Kang Dynasty. This is what he explained to Gizmodo upon being asked about the inclusion of the Fantastic Four and Blade in the upcoming Avengers project:
“Yeah, it’s definitely a tricky thing. But much like when I took on this Ant-Man job, I can’t really focus on that outside stuff. I have just got to lay down the bones of a good story, hopefully, and find the characters that I want to tell [it]. And then it becomes a game of ping pong with the other people. Like whoever comes on and does Fantastic Four or Blade or — I’m probably not even using those characters, you know — but it all informs itself.”
It looks like Marvel’s first superhero family won’t appear in Avengers 5. This decision of Loveness will piss off many diehard Marvel fans. Why? The Fantastic Four share a close connection with Kang the Conqueror and have fought against him several times in the comics. One of the most prominent storylines, “Kang Dynasty”, showcases Kang trying his best to conquer the Earth in the 41st century with the help of his time-travel technology. As a result, the Fantastic Four and the Avengers are brought to this century and together, they stop Kang.
Another thing that makes the Fantastic Four a perfect addition to Avengers 5 is that Nathaniel Richards, father of Reed Richards, is a descendant of Kang the Conqueror. This fact strengthens the Fantastic Four’s connection to Kang’s story arcs.
Yes, Blade does not need to be in Avengers 5. He belongs to a supernatural world of vampires. That’s why his inclusion in a film that tackles intriguing concepts like the Multiverse and time travel does not make any sense.
Although, Loveness hinted at Daredevil and Moon Knight making their cinematic debuts on the big screens. “I wish Hawkeye a lot of luck [against the Kangs],” Loveness added. “I’m sure Daredevil and Moon Knight are gonna be great against those guys.”
Written by Jeff Loveness and helmed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will lay the groundwork for Secret Wars and ultimately help conclude The Multiverse Saga. It will hit theatres globally on May 2, 2025. Stay tuned for more updates.
